Latent Semantic Indexing
What Is LSI? Well in a nutshell
LIS is an acronym for Latent Semantic Indexing.
I know, it sounds pretty geeky but lets look at it in a SEO for non-geeks sort of way.
If you market on the Internet you really need to gain at least a basic understanding of just what Latent Semantic Indexing is and how you need to incorporate this philosophy into your web design.
First of all, if you have been following any of my SEO blog post I have been stressing for some time that the future of successful SEO will be a synergetic partnership with the search engines not “can I build sites faster than the SERPS can deindex them” approach.
Google has been in the process of developing a new addition to their algorithm. This is what others have referred to as “Thematic Search.”
The word Thematic simply means “relating to or constituting a topic of discourse.”
What that means in SEO terms is that this new algorithm will look at web pages and determine the relevancy and the relationship of the words on the page as well as make a determination of the relevancy of the words and phrases to the theme of the site as a whole.
No longer will keyword density carrier as much weight as before LSI. Now in addition to your main keyword you will need to use words that are related to the theme of the given page as well as the site as a whole.
Here is an example;
These are other words that would be a good Semantic fit on a page or site focusing on the keyword.

Homeschooling Study aids Christian curriculum Education Distance learning Teaching aids Children
As you can see these words do not contain the main keyword phrase “Homeschooling” but they are words that may be mentioned in a discussion about homeschooling.
What the search engines are trying to accomplish with LSI is to cleanup the Internet by forcing web publishers to provide “Real” and useful content for any given search term.
If you take the time to either create or have quality content created for you I am sure you will reap the rewards of your labors in the form of higher rankings, more traffic, and oh greater profits.
Here is a free LSI keyword tool by a company called Theme Zoom.
Sample a key feature of Theme Zoom's keyword research tool to find the relationship of a keyword to the "Main Theme" of your website and receive suggestions on how to use the keyword best in the context of your Main (Parent) Theme: (example test: Theme: bicycle Keyword: bicycle parts)
NOTE: Many of the features described in the Users Manual are not available in this sample.
