Build Better Site Maps for Better SEO

Site Maps Play A Very Essential Role In The SEO of Your Site.

Unless you've been "Lost" on some remote island, you already know how important it is to get Google's attention. And even more importantly, to secure Google's UNDIVIDED attention.

And that's precisely what a Google sitemap does... it takes all of your web pages and places them directly in the path of the infamous Google crawlers. They simply can't be missed.

That accomplishment alone is something to cheer about. After all, the Google crawlers (aka spiders) are no pushovers. Just when you THINK you've got it all figured out, these creepy little buggers go and change direction. Literally!
 

There are two types of Site Maps

The first type is a page or pages on your site that list all the other pages in your website with hard coded links.

This type of site map is primarily for humans visiting your site, but it also makes it easier for all of the search engines to spider your sites because your links are all listed on one page.

This type of site maps can contain just link, or can contain links with a short snippets of description about the page.

Yahoo seems to prefer site maps that contain links and descriptions!

The other type of site map is an xml file site map.

XML Site Maps site map will help you in getting spidered by Google. XML site maps are not limited to just helping you with your Google rankings, because all the search engines spider each other!

In today's world building site maps by hand is far too time consuming, and you will probably miss many important SEO factors about site in the process.

There's a right way and a wrong way to do just about anything. And most often, we're perfectly aware of one or the other.

On many of the sites I build I use XsitePro.

This website authoring software is my personal favorite. It automates many of the repetitive tasks that go into building SEO friendly sites, including generating great site maps in both XML for big "G" and a static site map with descriptions for Yahoo!

But it is a good idea not to always use the same software to build all your sites, epically if your building "Mini Nets."

So when I use other programs to build sites I have found that a program called Sitemap Equalizer gets me the best results by far from the SERPS.

Sitemap Equalizer does a lot more that just build site maps. It will spider your entire site to see if there any broken links, make sure that the meta keyword and description tags are present, show you exactly which of your pages are indexed by Google, and it also allows you to output your sitemap to Google's XML sitemap format as well as Yahoo's plain text sitemap feed format.

Don't try to build your site maps by hand!

With affordable tools like these there is no need to waste your valuable time.
